Alex Rims Sapim Wheel Builds

Pete has a few sets of hoops that we’ve built him. He knew we’d be able to help out with something “specific“.

On a budget, he needed a new rear wheel for his aging 26” singlespeed. The spec required a multispeed freehub, 6 bolt disc mounts, and a bolt up axle for secure fitment.

Not being a weight weenie (or to spend a heap of cash) we came up with a solution that made sense. A Shimano M475 rear hub was disassembled, and a new Wheels Manufacturing 170mm M10 axle substituted. Add some quality stainless steel track nuts (with captive washers) and you have the most secure fixing available.

The Alex MD21 is a great rim for those of you needing good weight, price and a tubeless ready profile. It suited this application perfectly, and came in quite a fair bit less expensive than more “exotic” offerings.

Of course, Sapim Race double butted spokes and bras nipples ensure this wheel will be smashing trails for years to come.
