Andy's Spank 350 onto DT Swiss hubs

Andy is a known bike trasher. He rides hard, and often. After smashing quite a few wheels that came as original equipment on his bikes, he asked us to build some solid Trail wheels for an upcoming race in Canada. Knowing how he rides, we suggested the super reliable Spank Oozy Trail 350 rims. They are lightish, super stiff, look great and robust. Not expensive either. DT Swiss 350 hubs are a wise choice too. Easy to get parts for, and a reasonable weight, once upgraded to the 54t freehub ratchet system, they are a solid workhorse. Sapim Race spokes...

Madi's New DT Swiss 350 rebuild onto Syntace

Madi's New DT Swiss 350 rebuild onto Syntace

Madi had been riding a set of ENVE carbon MTB wheels for some time, but always struggled to get tyres on and off. The final straw was a crack that appeared in one. It was time for some new rims. She approached us to rebuild her DT Swiss 240 hubs onto some wide, reliable and light 26" rims. Being lightweight (but still loving the tougher downhill tracks) we knew that the Syntace MX series of rims would be perfect for her. The Syntace W35 MX rims are 30mm internally, but impressively light. The finish is fantastic as well, with the Satin bead...

Scott's Big FAT Heavy Hitters - Nextie and Project321

27.5 All Mountain Carbon Enduro Mountain Bike Wheel Builds Nextie Project321 Wheel Builds

Scott's Big FAT Heavy Hitters - Nextie and Project321

XLR8 rides with Scott whenever on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, where the trails are rocky, steep and very technical. Scott really wanted a lighter set of hoops for his 27.5+ Rocky Mountain - but they also had to be stiffer and lighter than the alloy hoops that came with the bike.Being a bit of a gear smasher, and not one for doing much maintenance, Project321 hubs are a wise choice. They are super tough, ultra reliable and have the fastest engagement he required for steep step ups and rock slabs. Even in black (they come in a wide array of cool...

David's Purple Project 321 SuperBoost on Spank Oozy Trail 350 rims

David's Purple Project 321 SuperBoost on Spank Oozy Trail 350 rims

David needed a tricky new wheelset for his Pivot 459. It uses a SuperBoost rear axle setup, so Project 321 hubs were the logical choice. They are beautifully machined out of top quality alloys, house excellent bearings, and have 216 points of engagement. And they come in Purple! David was keen on a premium alloy rim, so we recommended the Spank Oozy Trail 350. This is an updated version of their older 345 rim, that is a tiny bit wider, and a bit lighter. Tough and look great as well. David is fairly light and a smooth rider, so in...

Nick's Hope Pro4 hubs and Spank Spike rims

27.5 Enduro Hope Mountain Bike Wheel Builds Sapim Spank Tubeless Wheel Builds

Nick's Hope Pro4 hubs and Spank Spike rims

We built a pair of Hope hubs on Spank rims for a mate of Nick’s and he was so impressed he came to us for advice. He advised us of a history of smashing wheels on Sydney’s Upper North Shore - trails we at XLR8 know well. Hope Pro4 hubs and Spank Spike rims are logical choices. Both are not the lightest product out there, but they are good value and super tough! Sapim Race spokes and brass nipples are all that is required to keep the front wheel together, laced in an uber reliable 3x pattern. On the rear...
