Manfred is an ex-National Road Champion and winner of many amateur stage races around the world (including the Aussie Commonwealth Bank Classic back in the day). We've known Manfred for well over twenty years, ridden with him heaps, and understand exactly what he needs for his ride.
Knowing this, he rang and asked us to build him some wheels, and advised us to "build me what you know will work for me!" So we did.
He is not known for being easy on his equipment, nor keeping his stuff super clean, so we chose White Industries XMR Boost hubs for him. They are incredibly well built, from top shelf materials, and last longer than any other hub in the market. An investment that will see many years of reliable use in these wheels, without difficult or costly maintenance (that mean's you, Chris King!).
He plays with different tyres a lot, so ease of tubeless is a priority. As a result, we selected the Spank Industries Oozy Trail 350. These are a nice light alloy rim, wide at 30mm internal, with the very user friendly "Oohbah" internal rim profile that makes tubeless a cinch.
Of course, Sapim Race double butted spokes and black brass nipples are a tough, reliable and light choice that completes a tough wheelset that will see many years of service (undoubtably hard years of service too!).
