We’ve made a “stiffness junkie” of Sean!
After building him a set of MTB hoops, and recently a pair of “disc ready” gravel grinder wheels, he came to us for yet another pair.
In this case, he’d been having issues with some hoops that his local bike shop had built. A rebuild was in order; and the Suntour Sprint hubs needed something special to be built into.
Top end Suntour hubs of late 80s, early 90s vintage were every bit as good as anything in the market at the time. They used a well sealed bearing system with more and smaller ball bearings than the competition, resulting in silky smoothness, great reliability, and the fact that many are still in active service today!
We rebuilt Sean’s Suntour Sprint hubs onto Hplusson TB14 rims with Sapim Race double butted spokes, and brass nipples. 2x lacing on the front, and 3x on the rear, for a classic look. The outcome is a beautiful set of classic wheels, that look great on his retro ride.

Initially …. “first impression is by golly they’re stiff”.
And then …. “I’ve used them both on and off road (bike path and unsealed road) so far and think they might outlive me. Happy camper.”
