The Velocity A23 is a great road rim. Strong and stiff enough for most riders, and with a lovely wide profile that makes 23c and 25c tyres balloon differently – as the tyre takes a more rounded shape (rather than a lightbulb shape – pinched in at the bead).
As the tyre actually holds more air, you can drop the air pressure a bit which improves grip and softens the ride. There is no added rolling resistance, so it is a win-win situation.
Most Velocity A23 rims come in around 450g, so a 1600g wheelset is certainly possible using sensible components, without compromising reliability.
Oh, did I mention they are road tubeless ready as well?
Clancy selected our own XLR8 hubs in 24 and 28 holes, and additionally we used the “Off Centre” A23 rim for the rear. This rim enables the angles of the driveside and non-driveside to be closer for greater stiffness and strength.
The result is a 1601g road tubeless ready wheelset (including rim tapes) that should see Clancy rolling comfortably for years to come. We use the A23 “OC” for road training, racing and cyclocross wheelsets – tuning spoke type, pattern and number to suit the rider and purpose. “Contact Us” for more information.
