Dan's Project321 Singlespeed hubs on Stan's Flow EX Mk3 rims
27.5" All Mountain Enduro Project321 Sapim Stan's No Tubes Wheel Builds
Dan rides a very unusual Enduro rig. The Kiwi made Zerode Taniwha uses the Pinion P1:12 frame mounted gearbox, and thus only a single front chainring, and one rear cog. This gearbox provides 12 gears, evenly spaced apart to give a total gearing range of 600 percent. Setup appropriately, this can offer gearing as high as a SRAM 11s 32x10t set-up, but with a super low ratio that’s even lower than a 46t cog! This special bike requires special wheels. Dan's old 26" wheels had been serving him well, but the bike was designed to accomodate 27.5" and he was keen to try...
Calvin's BikePacking and Big Ride Wheels
29er All Mountain Cyclocross Enduro Gravel Sapim Spank Tubeless Wheel Builds White Industries
We built some wheels for Calvin some time ago. He claims they are the only wheels he's owned that have never required any attention. We're happy with that! This time Calvin needed a pair of bikepacking and gravel wheels for his new ride. We discussed at length the differing options, and Calvin was really keen to ensure utmost reliability. As a result, we decided the White Industries CLD hubs were a natural choice - super reliable, super tough and absolutely beautiful! For rims, the Spank Oozy Trail 295 was selected. Such a versatile rim! We have been using these rims for purposes from XC...
ABs Ai Asymmetric Zelvy Carbon hoops for the World Champs
29er All Mountain Carbon Enduro Project321 Sapim Wheel Builds Zelvy
AB has been riding our wheels for a while and needed a new pair to suit her new frame. She has moved to Cannondale and their new Ai (Asymmetric Integration) frameset. The Cannondale concept requires specific rear wheel dish to sit properly in the rear triangle of the frame, but all in an effort to ensure greater lateral wheel stiffness and better wheel reliability. Cyclinic, the local Project 321 distributor contacted us with this project and we agreed the Zelvy RBL 29er rims would be perfect for this build. They are super duper light, and still quite stiff under a...
Roval 142+ rebuild onto Light Bicycle 38mm Carbon Asymmetric 29er rim
29er All Mountain Carbon Enduro Nextie Tubeless Wheel Builds
If you are running a Specialized MTB dually from a few years ago, you may have a proprietary "142plus" hub. More details in a recent post, but essentially, if you have one of these, it makes sense to keep using it. The idea was a good one (a wider flanged hub), but came along just as the Boost standard emerged, and was thus eclipsed. Only certain Specialized frames can use these hubs, and these hubs cannot be used in normal 142mm spaced frames. Another retailer approached us to help out one of his customers. The customer hadpurchased a Light Bicycle...
Hernando's Bontrager Nextie 29er Asymmetric Carbon Rebuild
29er All Mountain Bontrager Carbon DT Swiss Enduro Nextie Tubeless Wheel Builds Wheel Repairs
Hernando rides a Trek All Mountain 29er. It's a fine bike, and he's decided that he'll keep it for a good few years yet. Being a 29er, he felt that the standard Bontrager Rhythm Comp alloy wheelset was a little too flexy for his liking. They are also a little narrow at 21mm wide internal. He felt this to be the only issue with the bike. So, after a couple of years abusing the alloy wheelset, he came to us looking for advice on a wide carbon wheelset to breathe a bit of new life (and lateral stiffness ) into...
