Anna B’s voice could be heard loud and clear across social media – “my cyclocross wheels won’t accept 11speed!”
XLR8 came to the rescue for this Singlespeed and MTB “grrrrrl” from Brisbane. She’s a well known racer with great results on the National XC circuit, a former National Singlespeed Champion, and generally a tough chick on a bike.
Understandably, she’s not known for being easy on her equipment. To suit her new 11s SRAM drivetrain, we selected the ever reliable (and very beautiful) White Industries T11 hubset in impeccable polished silver.
The titanium freehub body resists marring of the cogs (a real issue in high torque situations like cyclocross), and the bearings run super smooth out of the box, but are simple to replace after a few of the inevitable CX mudfests.
This is a set of hubs that should see duty in several sets of hoops.
As strength was a priority over just about everything else, a set of black anodised Hplusson Archetypes were chosen, in a sensible 24h front, and 28h rear. Certainly a 20h front was an option, but CX tends to put much more strain on front wheels than you’d think, so we decided to ensure Anna finishes the race, so she can finish first.
The smart spoke choice was Sapim Race double butted – light, strong and stiff, and they look ace with the polished hubs.
