Paulie is a long term friend and old customer of XLR8. He owns four or five sets of XLR8 wheels – from road to MTB. He’s been beset with some bad luck lately, so in order to cheer him up for his birthday, we put his new singlespeed wheels together.
He’s had these parts allocated to the build since well before he broke his leg, so it was good to finally get them built, and stop him saying “I must get those rims out of the shed and shoot them up to you” at the end of every conversation!
You’ll see from the images that Paulie has re-used a White Industries ENO disc rear hub (this is it’s third wheelset!) and chose the beautiful Project321 Lefty hub in matching silver. These will look great on his Cannondale Flash 29er.
Project321 hubs are simply excellent. Beautifully machined, smartly executed, bombproof, and simply rebuildable (not that they need it very often). All rear and front MTB hubs (apart from the Lefty hub) are also easily convertible across to differing axle standards – so these are hubs that you can keep for a long time.
Stan’s NoTubes Crest rims were selected for their light weight, reliability, and ability to work tubeless with just about any tyre.
Black Sapim Race spokes and red alloy nipples add lots of bling!
