Will's Tailwind Carbon Hoops on Red Anodised White industries T11 hubs
Aero Carbon Sapim Wheel Builds White Industries
Will had a pair of carbon wheels that had failed, and left him with a pair of beautiful White industries T11 hubs, in stunning anodised red. He asked us for our advice on what was the best rim to put these fantastic hubs into. We suggested a pair of Tailwind Carbon clinchers - 45mm front, and an offset 50mm rear. These rims are very high quality, with great warranty, and nicely wide for modern road tyres. The braking surface is a consistently smooth but high friction, and last extremely well. The price is competitive as well. We laced these hubs...
Todd's Replacement 27.5+ White Industries on Spank Oozy Trail 395+
27.5" Sapim Spank Wheel Builds White Industries
We built Todd a sweet set of White industries and Spank wheels several months ago. Unfortunately the bike was stolen, and has not been recovered. Todd needed to replace the bike, and being so happy with the build we did for him, he asked us to replicate it. However, this time he decided on a different aesthetic - to suit his replacement bike (again, the same as before) that has a different colour scheme. Again, White Industries XMR+ Boost hubs, but this time in beautiful polished finish. Shimano Microspline freehub. Sapim Race double butted silver spokes, and brass nipples. A...
Helping a mate - Formula Boost on Alexrims MD27 with Sapim Spokes
27.5" Alex Rims Sapim Wheel Builds
Sometimes you just gotta help out a mate. Tim's rear wheel is out of action so we needed to keep him rolling until his new rim arrives. We scoured the workshop for some bits and pieces that could be strung together, yet would still be appropriate for his riding. We found a Formula boost rear hub that we had pulled out of a new Commencal wheel, and laced it into a very modest AlexRims MD27 27mm wide internal rim. We love these. They are well made, not heavy, and extremely well priced. A really good choice for an XC/Trail rig...
The Shimano WH-6600 Rear Wheel Rebuild - #shittohit
Aero Sapim Shimano Wheel Repairs
The latest in our "shittohit" series of projects, the XLR8 Wheels 2001 Trek 2300 is finally getting a complete rebuild. The bike came to us with a Shimano WH-6600 rear wheel. We are not a fan of the radial driveside lacing (makes no sense whatsoever) and the rusty old spokes (that were now well beyond their fatigue life). We found a nice old 20 hole Ritchey Zero hub in the used hubs drawer, and calculated the spoke bracing angles using our own developed spoke length, target tensions and bracing angle calculator. As the wheels were originally offered by Shimano with driveside radial lacing and...
Retro Mavic Aksium Race rebuild - but why bother?
Classic Mavic Sapim Wheel Builds Wheel Repairs
A customer dropped by the workshop to see us in the middle of this Mavic Aksium Race wheel rebuild. He asked why we would spend all this time on an older mid level factory wheelset?Like much older Mavic, these wheels were 11s capable from before 11s was a thing. The hubs are very reliable (though not super light). This particular set of rims had seen very little use, but the spokes had become rusty (whilst sitting in storage) and started breaking. We replaced the basic rusty flat bladed spokes with lovely new Sapim Sprint straight pull spokes (a bit thicker Race on...
