Aaron's New E-Bike Wheel
Alex Rims Sapim Shimano Wheel Builds
Aaron is part of the growing movement of hard hitting e-MTB bikers. He rides really hard (being an ex-motocrosser) and had demolished the original equipment rear wheel on his Merida. We upgraded his rear hub to an e-bike specific Shimano Deore, and built it onto a tough Alexrims MD40 rim - a 40mm internal width "Plus" sized rim that works nicely with the 2.8" tyres Aaron prefers. Plain gauge spokes, brass nipples and some sneaky nipple washers will ensure longevity for years to some.
Evan's Disc "All-Road" Wheels - Novatec Hubs on AlexRims Volar 2.1 29er/700c rims
We repaired a set of original equipment wheels for Evan a few years ago. He came to us to replace those wheels with something lighter, stiffer, and more reliable. He planned to use these wheels for "all road" riding - all bitumen surfaces, and the occasional dirt and gravel. Of course, he needed reliability (it one thing we won't compromise) and wanted to keep weight and price reasonable. Novatec hubs are always a smart choice - inexpensive, super reliable, and easy to source parts for. AlexRims Volar are a tough, light MTB rim that we have used for many gravel/allroad builds...
Andy's 27.5+ Rear Wheel Repair
27.5" Alex Rims Sapim Shimano Tubeless Wheel Repairs
Andy has quite a few sets of wheels from us. He's been really happy with them, so contacted us when he realised that he had ripped the valve out of his 27.5+ e-bike wheel. A natural choice for mid quality alloy rim replacements (for OEM products) are from AleRims. In this case we needed a strong rim with a 40mm internal width. The MD40 is the perfect choice. Certainly not expensive, and the quality is great. We laced the rim up to his Shimano Deore Centerlock hub with Sapim Leader plain gauge spokes and brass nipples, and used...
Helping a mate - Formula Boost on Alexrims MD27 with Sapim Spokes
27.5" Alex Rims Sapim Wheel Builds
Sometimes you just gotta help out a mate. Tim's rear wheel is out of action so we needed to keep him rolling until his new rim arrives. We scoured the workshop for some bits and pieces that could be strung together, yet would still be appropriate for his riding. We found a Formula boost rear hub that we had pulled out of a new Commencal wheel, and laced it into a very modest AlexRims MD27 27mm wide internal rim. We love these. They are well made, not heavy, and extremely well priced. A really good choice for an XC/Trail rig...
Thelittlestrocketeer's New Triathlon Hoops - Alexrims 650c on Rebuilt Cheapo hubs
Alex Rims Sapim TT and Triathlon Wheel Builds
Jett is a little 11 year old who loves to run, surf and ride. As a result, he's pretty bloody quick in Triathlon, even riding his MTB! Keen for more speed, he came to us and asked what we could do. We found an old 650c road bike on the local classifieds, and stripped and rebuilt it with smarter and lighter parts (but nothing too special, as he will grow out of this bike pretty soon). Being in an age group where he's not yet allowed to use aero bars, fast wheels and tyres are his only real aero advantage....
