Josh T approached us to build a wheelset with some preloved Suntour Superbe Pro hubs. In fact, he asked us to build the hoops prior to even securing the right retro ride for them to go on! The hubs are now about 25 years old, but still spin as smoothly as ever. Being such beautiful things, the right rim choice was essential – for not only the retro look, but a high performance ride.
The hubs are an uncommon 28hole drilling, but lucky for Josh the beautiful Hplusson TB14 double eyeletted rim comes in that drilling. As a bonus they are beautifully polished, and a lovely wide profile at 23mm, which works so well with 23c and 25c tyres. We built these up using a 2 cross pattern front and rear, using double butted spokes to keep the weight down, and brass nipples for reliability.
