Calvin’s new 29er wheels are just what he needed to reduce the weight of his CUBE 29er.
It’s pretty common for off the shelf bikes to be specced with average wheels. It’s an easy way for a manufacturer to cut cost, in an area where the buyer often overlooks. Calvin found this to be the case, and has now relegated the original wheels to commuting duties.
We laced these up to Alex Evo SuperComp hoops in 32h. These rims are made of a special lightweight alloy, and reinforced with a thick alloy eyelet. The result is a 390g tubeless ready 29er rim that can take a beating, and looks the goods as well. Calvin requested Hope Pro2 Evo hubs, for their known reliability, nice finish and great price. The Red anodised finish looks great as well.
Of course, reliability is further enhanced by a sensible spec of Sapim Race double butted spokes, and brass nipples.
