Tune are well renowned for their extremely light and high tech hubs. They are not only well thought out, and beautifully engineered; but very reliable. Both MTB and Road.

This Tune Mig45 and Mag180 hubset is now on it’s third set of hoops. This time we’ve built them up into a set of 25mm wide and 38mm deep tubeless ready carbon clincher rims, from a respected OEM manufacturer.

In concert with the high quality and super light hubset, we selected Sapim CX-Ray spokes for the front and rear, to keep weight low, and aero high. Black hex head alloy nipples were used for that “all black stealth” look, and to ensure on-going reliability on this everyday, all weather, wheelset.

The weight? Less than 1500g. Very light for a mid depth clincher wheelset.

Initial ride impressions are … well … impressive! Coupled with 25mm Continental GP4000 tyres (running at 90psi for a 85kg rider), the ride is very comfy, and cornering simply sublime.

Stiffness is surprising. The 20 hole front wheel seems every bit as stiff as the 32 hole alloy wheel it replaces – due to both the stiffness of the carbon rim, and the exceptional spoke bracing angle that the Mig45 hub enables. No lateral deflection can be felt in the 24 hole rear wheel, again in contrast to the super light 32 hole alloy rim it replaced.

If you are simply looking for the highest performing hubset on the market, at this point we’d recommend Tune hubs. If you are in that market, you will likely be pleasantly surprised at the price …
