XLR8 was recommended to Craig by another customer of ours. We like that, it makes us confident that we spec and build great wheels. It is happening more and more these days!
Craig requested a great set of carbon hoops for his ride, something that would outperform his OEM factory wheels in every respect, with a key focus on stiffness and light weight.
The new Zelvy 35mm wide 650b carbon rim is an excellent choice. The Zelvy crew are carbon engineers (and Enduro riders) so they know their stuff in designing their rims. Little things that make a difference (like a specific carbon specification around the spoke holes for strength) ensure confidence in the product.
Add to that the best carbon rim warranty in the business (though we’ve never seen it used!) and you have peace of mind, all at a relatively minor price premium over the Chinese generics.
But a great rim does not make a great wheel, unless it is put together with the right parts, and it’s built well. We worked with Craig to identify that the Project 321 Generation 2 hubs would be perfect for the hammering he’s expecting to give them. These hubs use the modern but simple Industry 9 Torch freehub, that’s light enough, extremely durable and is easily interchangeable to other axle standards in the future.
