Alex found a used pair of Cannondale CODA hubs, and some new old stock Velocity Deep V rims. He contacted us to build them up.
Knowing that these hubs feature DT/Hugi 240 “Ratchet System” freehub, and the rims are essentially bombproof, we know that these hoops would suit his riding intentions and weight, and last a long time.
We waited until receiving the hubs before finalising spec. This ended up being a good idea – Alex decided just prior to the build that these would be the wheels he’d use on his new “Gravel Grinder”. Gravel Grinding is long miles, on quiet dirt roads, where fat tyres rule. A Granfondo or CX geometry works well for such outings (and helps with tyre clearance).
As a result, we chose Sapim Race spokes, laced front and rear in a 2x pattern (mimicking the pattern the hubs had been used with before), and super reliable brass nipples.
Alex, enjoy those “out back” gravel rides on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. They’re on their way!
